Sweet Chilli Sauce Recipe

This is a nice fruity home made sweet chilli sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of crushed garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of crushed ginger
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 3 tablespoons of honey
  • 1/4 cup of olive oil
  • Juice from 2 lemons
  • 1 can of tomato puree
  • 1.5 cups of cider vinegar
  • 2 yellow bhut jolokias
  • 2 red habaneros
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch to thicken (optional)

This makes a mild to medium sauce, adding a couple of extra chillies would make it medium to hot and a total of 10 super hots would make this really hot but it would still have all the yummy taste.

Method:

Combine all the ingredients in a food processor and blend until it is very smooth. Add the puree to a saucepan and cover, allow to simmer on a medium heat for about 30 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly for about 10 minutes.

Boil some water and fill the glass bottles or jars you wish to put the sauce into and allow to sit for a few minutes.

Pour the water out and using a funnel pour the sauce into the bottles or jars. Place the lid on and allow to cool. Once cooled place in the fridge and use as required, if you have heated it long enough and have sterilised the bottles the sauce should easily last 6 months.
